Design of Donald Trump's 'greatest and most beautiful' triumphal arch revealed

Donald Trump's planned triumphal arch in Washington DC will feature a towering winged figure, flanked by two eagles, and guarded by four lions, all gilded with gold.

The design, unveiled on Friday, will also carry the words "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice for All" inscribed in gold atop either side.

From its base to the top of the winged figure, it will stand 76m (250ft) tall, dwarfing the nearby Lincoln Memorial, which is 30m (99ft) tall.

Announcing the design on his own social media network, Truth Social, Donald Trump called it the "GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World".

He added: "This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!"

The arch is set to occupy a site between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

According to the president, the capital first sought such a monument 200 years ago.

"It was interrupted by a thing called the Civil War, and so it never got built," Mr Trump said in February.

"Then, they almost built something in 1902, but it never happened."

He's said that major cities around the world have such monuments, and Washington is the only one without one.
