Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejects Donald Trump's Board of Peace plan for Gaza

Benjamin Netanyahu says he rejects a 15-point plan for Gaza by Donald Trump's Board of Peace.

In a statement on Sunday, the Israeli prime minister also said his military will not make "any withdrawal" from the Palestinian territory until Hamas fully disarms.

Mr Netanyahu also warned that as long as he is PM there will be no Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank and Iran "will not have nuclear weapons".

"The existence of our precious country, the country of all of us, the existence of Israel, is non-negotiable," he said.

Explaining his stance on Hamas's proposed disarmament, he said: "I mean the heavy weapons, the less heavy weapons, all the weapons. And we are talking about real disarmament, not fictitious disarmament."

Amid growing doubts over the strength of US-Israeli relations, Mr Netanyahu said they are "talking to the Americans about this issue. They have ideas, some of which are acceptable to us and some of which are unacceptable to us, and we know how to stand up to these things.

"We have proven this in the past and we are proving it today."

Last month, the US president said there had been a breakthrough in his ​plan to end ⁠the war, which ⁠both Israel and Hamas agreed to in 2025 and that began with a ceasefire.

Mr Trump ⁠said Hamas, ​which ruled Gaza for ​nearly two decades before ​carrying out the 7 October 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the ⁠Gaza war, had ​agreed to lay down its weapons.

Palestinian officials say around 1,200 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire agreement last October.

Board of Peace

Describing itself on its website as a body that "seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict", the board has 28 founding members.

In a statement, Mr Trump said its aim is to "end decades of suffering, stop generations of hatred and bloodshed, and forge a beautiful, everlasting, and glorious peace".

Senior Hamas official Basem Naim said the group expects mediators and Washington to "press [Mr] Netanyahu and his government to adhere to the roadmap".
