Man dies and another injured after attack at centre housing migrants in Ireland

A man has died following an attack at a centre housing migrants in Ireland.

The man was found with serious injuries on Saturday morning at the International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre in Tralee, Co Kerry, and later died.

A second man - in his 40s - was also injured.

Another man, aged in his 40s, was arrested following the incident.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration said it had responded to a critical incident at the centre.

They added: "An Garda Síochána has commenced a criminal investigation and, while this is under way, the department cannot comment further on the matter at this time."

A Garda spokesman said a report of an assault was made around 5.20am on Saturday at a residential property in Ballymullen.

They said: "Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male with serious injuries; he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

"A second man, aged in his 40s, also sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to University Hospital Kerry. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."
