Teenager left with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds

A teenager has been left with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds after a shooting near a mosque in Birmingham.

Police were called to reports of a shooting in Bowyer Road, close to St Saviours Road in the city, shortly before 5.30pm on Wednesday.

The boy, aged 16, has been taken to hospital.

Officers are carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area.

At this stage, they do not believe the shooting is connected to to mosque which is happened nearby.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: "We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns.

"Although this happened near a mosque, at this stage we do not believe the shooting to be connected to this place of worship."

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or has footage from the area to contact them.

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or doorbell footage.

They can also speak to Crimestoppers anonymously.
