Just four regiments have been given the Freedom of the Borough since 1907, The Junior Leaders Regiment, the 30th Signal Regiment, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the Queen's Gurkha Signals.

On Friday, July 26, Nuneaton will play host to the march which will not only mark the 30 Signal Regiment’s 60thbirthday, but will also mark the 70th birthday of the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, also based at Bramcote Barracks and part of the 30th Signal Regiment.

Starting at Dugdale street at 13:20, the march will wheel right into Queens Road and then into the Market Place, forming up outside the Town Hall for a welcome by the Mayor June Tandy.

There will be 177 soldiers on parade, including Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major. The troops will march with bayonets fixed and the regimental flags will be carried and QGS pipers will also be playing.

There will be a Parade Inspection prior to the Regiment marching back along the same route to dismiss at the Salvation Army Citadel.

Armed Forces Representative, Cllr Barry Longden said:

“This will be a proud day, marking both the 60th Birthday of the 30th Signal Regiment as well as the 70th birthday of the Queen's Gurkha Signals. We hope that the people of Nuneaton will come along to support the Regiment and cheer the troops along the route.”

Lieutenant Colonel Hannah Stoy, Commanding Officer 30th Signal Regiment, said:

“Our soldiers are looking forward to exercising this Freedom by marching through Nuneaton. This is a tremendous honour that we are immensely proud of.

“We are grateful for the support that our soldiers and their families receive from people in Nuneaton and Bedworth. This is especially important when our troops are on operations and when they return to Gamecock Barracks. We currently have troops deployed across the world.”
