Detectives have identified a man they wish to speak to as part of the ongoing investigation.
Detectives in the Leicestershire Police force’s specialist fraud team have released an image of a man they wish to speak to after a pensioner was targeted by someone claiming to be from a mobile phone company.
The incident happened during the afternoon of Monday 29 September at 88-year-old’s home address in Mountsorrel.
It is reported a man knocked on the door of the victim’s home claiming to be from EE. He offered to be able to help the victim with a cheaper broadband package and requested for his bank card to be provided.
After taking the details of the bank card and demanding the victim sign an online form, the man left the property.
A few days later the elderly man discovered his mobile phone number and email address had been changed, Apple Pay had been set up in his name and a mobile phone had been ordered using the victim’s account details.
Following a number of enquiries, detectives have identified a man they wish to speak to as part of the ongoing investigation.
They have released an image in the hope someone may recognise him.

DC Heather Cotton, from the force’s Economic Crime Unit, said: “A elderly man was targeted in his own home by someone who is clearly preying on vulnerable people.
“Luckily once the victim realised what had happened he was able to contact the relevant companies and rectify the damage that had been caused.
“From our enquiries so far, we think the man in the image can help us with our investigation and we are keen to speak to him. If this man is you, or you know who he is, please contact police.”
