A local charity shop in Earl Shilton has reopened following an unexpected month-long closure caused by a collapsed shop floor.

The sudden structural issue forced the store, run by Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland,  to close at short notice.

The charity said this significantly impacted vital income streams that support older people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

During the closure, the charity lost several weeks of trading at a time when demand for its services continues to rise.

After extensive repairs and a full refurbishment, the shop welcomed customers back on Wednesday 22nd April — with a grand reopening celebration featuring cake and fizz.

Nicola Norris, Head of Retail, was keen to get the store back open, she said

“While we’re incredibly excited to reopen and show off the shop’s transformation, the reality is that the closure has had a real impact on the funds we’re able to raise. Every purchase made in our shops helps us continue supporting local older people who rely on our services. We’re encouraging the community to come along, celebrate with us, and help us get back on our feet.”
