‘Hinckley Illustrated’ runs from the 8th– 22nd of March

A new exhibition at the Atkins Gallery celebrates the landmarks of the local area.

‘Hinckley Illustrated’ runs from the 8th– 22nd of March and features talented local artists showcasing their map art and local illustrations.

Artists who will display at the exhibition include Rose Allinson of the Ten 2 Gallery, Laura Silveira Illustration, Alex Russel and Elliott Wynd-Jennings, Brio Media and Graham Luker.

Exhibitors Alex Russel and Elliott Wynd-Jennings, from Brio Media, said: "To have the opportunity to digitally illustrate some of Hinckley’s most iconic buildings was a pleasure and we’re so pleased to be exhibiting them in this wonderful exhibition."

The exhibition will also feature the historical works of Cicely Pickering, a famed local illustrator who worked in the 1920s through to the 1940s.

Pickering provided illustrations for Footpath Rambles around Hinckley published in 1930 and The Cradle & Home of the Hosiery Trade, published in 1940.

Hinckley and District Museum and Burbage Heritage Group will be lending their Cecily Pickering collection alongside modern reproductions from Hinckley District Past and Present (HDPP).

Paul Gardner, from HDPP, said: "We are really looking forward to this exhibition. Along with others HDPP has highlighted Cicely Pickering’s work since it started in 2014. Following a meeting with Cicely’s family back in 2018 HDPP was given permission to reproduce and sell her works to help raise monies for local good causes."

Fellow exhibitor and local illustrator Laura Silveira said: "I am very pleased to be joining forces with the council in promoting the upcoming launch of resources for Heritage Walks. As a local illustrator I have enjoyed mapping our beautiful market town by exploring on foot, as I hope others will with the aid of these new materials."

Atkins Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm and is free to enter. For more information, email info@atkinsbuilding.co.uk or follow us on social media @Atkins Building.
