A fun packed day for the whole family is promised when Burbage Common holds its 24th annual open day on Sunday 13 May.
The area around the visitor centre at the Leicester Road entrance will be transformed with a marquee accommodating a number of stalls including craft and charity stalls and local and national environmental charities.
The event, which is organised by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, really does make the most of the natural environment with workshops, demonstrations (falconry, bee keeping, bird box making etc) Morris dancers, maypole dancing, crafts and other outdoor activities.
Executive Member for Culture at the Borough Council, Councillor Maureen Cook said: “families can look forward to a fun packed event, with lots to do. The many stalls will highlight how much fun you can have in the countryside and how to get involved. It’s a very hands-on event and one that I am sure will be enjoyed by all.”
Among the attractions will be a dog show with various classes including: best puppy (under six months), best veteran (over seven years), most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, best small dog, best large dog and dog with the waggiest tail.
Pond dipping and den building will be amongst other activities that will be taking place throughout the day, as well as displays of maypole dancing and cheerleading.
There will also be demonstrations of traditional countryside crafts including wood turning, while Hinckley Archaeological Society will be present to help identify any unusual finds such as fossils, broken pottery, small pieces of metal or coins.
There will also be a farmers’ market area and many other food and refreshments stalls.
Admission to the event, which runs from 10:30am to 4:30pm, is free, but there may be a small charge for some of the activities and workshops held.
