Hammonds Furniture donate hundreds of pounds to help save a cat their staff looked after for years

Elsa the cat went missing from her Hinckley home 14 years ago and had been living on the ground of the factory ever since.

Hammonds Furniture has donated £354 to help pay for Elsa's medical bills.

Her owner Ruth Armstong told Fosse 107 how grateful she is.

The cat went missing from her home 14 years ago and started living in the Hammonds Factory grounds shortly after.

The staff, who assumed she was a stray, cared for her and made sure she was always fed.

They became worried when they noticed a lump growing on her head and so took her to a vet who found that Elsa was microchipped.

Hammonds Furniture was able to reunite the lost cat with her very relieved owner.

Ruth, said: "I'm still in shock I can't believe it. After so long she is home. After a while, you almost give up hope but you don't want to believe the worst. Finding out she was still alive was amazing."

Now Elsa is home she needs to have many operations to help with her cancer.

In a post on Facebook Ruth reached out to ask for help funding the medical treatment for Elsa, "I have set up a crowdfunding link https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/help-for-elsa-the-wonder-cat to help fund Elsa's treatment. She has no insurance, having been gone for so long and no chance of us getting any for her as she has returned with lots of medical requirements. If you can spare anything to help her on the road to recovery then please do. Her bills are mounting rapidly and we're not going to be able to cover them all."

The money donated by Hammonds Furniture has helped Ruth reach her target of £2,000.
