The victim told 48-year-old Barry Hancox "No" but he continued to sexually assault her.
Hancox, of Clarence Road, Hinckley stood trial in April this year charged with sexually assaulting a woman at another address in Hinckley in December 2018.
He had denied the offence but was convicted by a jury at Leicester Crown Court on 30 April.
Today (Friday 9 July) he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. He was also issued with an indefinite restraining order not to make contact with the victim and was placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
The victim of the offence had been staying over at the address when she described waking up during the night to find Hancox sexually assaulting her. The victim told Hancox “no”, but Hancox continued to sexually assault her.
The victim confided in a friend about what had happened before reporting the incident to police a couple of days later.
An investigation was launched including speaking with the victim and carrying out a number of enquiries including forensic examination on the victim’s clothing.
Hancox was arrested and interviewed where he denied the offence. But following enquiries carried out by officers, he was charged.
Support was provided to the victim throughout the investigation and court case including support from the Juniper Lodge sexual assault referral centre.
