Police are continuing to appeal for the public's assistance to trace a woman they believe could help with their investigation into a courier fraud scam in Nuneaton.

On 19 December the victim - who is in her 80s - received a phone call at her home address from someone claiming to be from her bank.

She was told there had been fraudulent activity on her account and someone would come and collect her debit card and PIN number.

Shortly afterwards, a female 'courier' attended the victim's address and collected the card, which was then used to purchase jewellery. A large cash withdrawal was also made in Coventry city centre.

Detective Constable Paul Vines said: "Enquiries are currently ongoing but we would ask anyone who recognises the woman pictured to get in touch with police as we believe she may have information, which could help with the investigation.

"I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that neither banks nor the police will ever call members of the public and ask them to withdraw cash from their account or disclose any banking or personal details over the telephone.

"Following the incident, we are also urging members of the public, particularly those who are elderly, to be vigilant against potential fraudsters.

"We continue to remind people of the actions they can take to help prevent themselves, neighbours or elderly members of their family from becoming victims.

"If you have any concerns, take the individual's name, details and a contact number and call to check their authenticity - genuine callers will not mind doing this.

"Most importantly, we would encourage them to report any suspicious activity to police by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is taking place. If you are unfortunate enough to be the victim of a crime, please get in touch as we can only help if we are aware of it."

If you are the woman pictured or you recognise her, officers would like you to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 66 of 23 February.
