The simulator enables cadets to refine their navigation, seamanship and command skills.
Loughborough Sea Cadets have launched a ship simulator after receiving a community grant.
The group received a Charnwood Community Grant of £2,750 towards the project, which provides cadets with advanced maritime training, reinforcing their skills before taking to the water.
The simulator enables cadets to refine their navigation, seamanship and command skills in a controlled, highly realistic environment.
Loughborough Sea Cadets chair Sarina Martin said: “The development of the simulator was made possible thanks to generous grants from Charnwood Borough Council and Loughborough University, and supported by VSTEP Nautis Home. Their support has been instrumental in bringing this visionary project to life.
“Loughborough Sea Cadets is committed to providing young people with high-quality training, fostering confidence, teamwork and discipline through maritime education. The addition of the ship simulator marks a significant step forward in ensuring cadets receive unparalleled preparation for their time on the water.”
The project, which also received funding from Loughborough University, integrates one of the world’s most advanced water and ship physics models to ensure the most accurate and immersive training experience available.
Councillor Liz Blackshaw, the Council’s lead member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted that Charnwood Community Grants has been able to support the Loughborough Sea Cadets in bringing this incredible ship simulator to life.
“It’s fantastic to see young people given the opportunity to develop vital skills, leadership and confidence through such an innovative project.
“The Council is proud to invest in our communities and help groups like this create lasting, positive impacts for young people in Charnwood.”
Loughborough Sea Cadets is based at Training Ship (TS) Venomous, off Beeches Road in Loughborough, and supports young people from Loughborough and the surrounding area.
It currently has 12 volunteers supporting 30 cadets, who are aged between 10 and 18.
