Teenager seriously injured after stabbing in Nuneaton

A 15-year-old has potentially serious injuries after a report of a stabbing in Nuneaton last night.

At around 10pm on Tuesday 22nd November police were called to a house in Coventry Road following a report of a disturbance and someone being assaulted with what is believed to be a bladed article.

A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he remains with injuries to his torso and arms while a 40-year-old man was discharged having suffered injuries to his arm and leg, which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

A knife was seized by officers at the scene and the police helicopter was also deployed.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and The Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene.   

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said:  "Three men were assessed at the scene. One was taken to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire by ambulance with potentially serious injuries.  A second sustained less serious injuries and is believed to have travelled themselves to the same hospital.  The third man was discharged at the scene."

Shortly afterwards, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been bailed until February next year.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife/bladed article, possession of class B/C drugs and attempted murder.

He has been bailed until February next year for the attempted murder.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with:

  • possessing a controlled drug of class B
  • possessing a knife/blade in a public place
  • obstructing/restricting a constable in the execution of his/her duty

He was remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Thursday 24th November 

Enquiries are underway and police would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident, or who was in the area of Coventry Road and Donnithorne Avenue between 9.30pm and 10.15pm.

Detective Inspector Martyn Kendall said: “I appreciate this incident is concerning for the local community but I would like to reassure them a thorough investigation is being conducted by our team and we believe it to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

“We responded quickly – using the police helicopter and our dog handlers to ensure two boys were arrested in connection with the incident.

“We will be continuing to carry out patrols and conducting house to house enquiries so you may see more officers in the area.

“We are keen to establish exactly what went on and would encourage anyone who was in the vicinity of Coventry Road, saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident, or has dashcam/doorbell footage to come forward.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help with our ongoing investigation.”
