Nuneaton hospital announces name for new £4m unit

Staff at the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust voted to name the hospital’s new modular ward, which is due to open in Autumn 2020.

More than 680 staff took part in voting from a shortlist and voted in favour of, The Captain Tom Moore Unit, in honour of the NHS fundraiser.

The two wards within the unit which will care for patients undergoing routine surgery will be named ‘Mary Seacole Ward’ and ‘Florence Nightingale Ward’.

George Eliot Hospital’s Managing Director, David Eltringham said: “I am delighted our staff voted to name the unit after Captain Tom Moore. It is fitting that his contribution over the pandemic period will be honoured in this way and we send our thanks to him and his family. I am also proud that our staff wanted to recognise the lives and work of two pioneering nurses during the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife 2020.”
