Market Bosworth Water Park wants to become a holiday destination with water-side lodges.

The owners of the park on Wellsborough Road have submitted a detailed planning application to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for 103 new timber holiday lets on the water's edge.

The plan is for the site to be marketed by Hoseasons, the largest holiday agents in the UK.

The application states: "The proposal is to provide 103 timber clad caravans. Each caravan will be accessed by the service road and have parking for up to two vehicles. Decking will also be provided to each caravan."

"The proposed development will provide attractive, environmentally friendly holiday accommodation for tourists visiting the area, where there is clearly a demand for such accommodation when considering the nearby leisure uses."

Many of the new lodges are proposed to be built on land currently used for car parking.

The water park, off Wellsborough Road, has up to 4,000 visitors per day at peak times.

There is an existing camp site for caravans as well as a cafe, mini golf, pedalo hire and cycle hire.

The application states that the existing number of car parking spaces is 1400 and the total proposed as part of the plans is 130. A loss of 1270 car parking spaces. It is not clear whether the park plan to remain open to local visitors but the application states that issues with car parking on the road on busy days have become problematic in recent years:

"The proposed site will deliver economic benefits, to the area. The diversification of the site will allow the applicant to continue with their leisure business and expand upon it, whilst limiting negative road impacts."

In a statement the owners of Bosworth Water Park Trust said: “Bosworth Water Trust are excited to announce the proposal of an expansion on their current holiday accommodation, with an application submitted to the local authority for 103 timber lodge style caravans. The Water Park at Market Bosworth already offers caravan, camping and log cabin breaks. This proposal is aimed at improving the current holiday accommodation and expanding it to encourage holiday makers to take extended breaks and explore the many facilities and attractions that the local area has to offer. Should local businesses or the general public want any further information then we would encourage their input and engagement via our planning agents, DCB Leisure.”

A decision is expected to be made by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council at the end of August 2020.
