Refurbishment of Nuneaton museum lift starts

There will be no working lift at the museum for eight weeks.

A refurbished lift is being installed at the Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery after funding was granted through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The current lift is becoming difficult to maintain because spare parts are no longer easy to obtain and so it is being replaced with a refurbished one.

Some preliminary electric works have already taken place and the demolition of the old lift and installation of the new cart will take eight weeks.

The work began on Monday, 8 January and there will be no lift during the demolition/construction period.

For the next eight weeks, there will only be stair access to the first floor and so the ‘Make n Take’ activities and Hands on History sessions will be moved downstairs for that period.

Cllr Sue Markham, Portfolio Holder for Public Services, said: "We are pleased that the UKSPF monies are being spent to continue to improve our popular museum.

"While it will be more difficult in the short term as the works take place, these improvements will help the museum provide access for all for years to come.''
