Teenagers within three months of turning 18 can also book their vaccine appointment online.

Text messages from the local NHS, as well as GP surgeries that offer the vaccine, are being sent out inviting 17-year-olds to come forward for their jab.

Additionally, local NHS leaders are inviting young people aged 16-17 to get their jab by turning up at a walk-in clinic over the weekend. No appointment is necessary.

The sites are:

  • St Hilda’s Church, Ling Dale, East Goscote, LE7 3XW
    • Sat 14th Aug – 9.30am to 6pm
    • Sun 15th Aug – 9.30am to 6pm
  • Belgrave Pharmacy, 52 Brandon St, Leicester LE4 6AW

Caroline Trevithick, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Performance at Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups said: “Our local vaccination programme in LLR has been going from strength to strength thanks to the tremendous response of our local population, NHS staff and volunteers.

“I’d like to urge young people to come forward and get vaccinated so that they are protected against the virus ahead of going back to university or college next month.

“We have made it really easy for eligible young people to get their jab, so if you have received a text message invite, or an invite from your GP practice, please protect yourself and others by getting vaccinated. Alternatively, you can just turn up at one of our walk-in clinics from tomorrow and this weekend – no appointment is necessary. “It’s really important you come forward and get vaccinated when it’s your turn.”

In line with recent Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) guidance, the local NHS is vaccinating people who are 16 and 17 with a single dose of the jab at GP and walk-in sites.

Children aged 12 to 15 who are clinically vulnerable to Covid or who live with adults who are at increased risk of serious illness from the virus are also being contacted by the NHS and invited for their vaccine.

Text invitations appear as an alert from ‘NHSvaccine’.
