A 102-year-old man has died after allegedly being pushed off a pub stage when he asked for the music to be turned down.

Phillip Ormerod, from Cwmbran, South Wales, was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the incident at the The Crow's Nest pub in the town on 1 August.

A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains under investigation.

Mr Ormerod's son, Robert, said his father had "just asked them to turn the music down" and was pushed when he turned around to leave the stage.

The centenarian broke his hip and died "suffering" in hospital about a week and a half later, he said.

Robert added: "We want to see justice, of course. They must have known he was an old man. It makes you wonder what the world is coming to.

"It has obviously made it difficult. It would've been nice if he'd gone quietly in his sleep."

He said his dad drank in the pub two or three times a week and was a well-known character there.

Mr Ormerod said his father had dementia and lived alone after his wife died 40 years ago.

"I feel sad - even though he could be difficult because of his age and dementia, still, you get used to him being around," he said.

"Even though I suppose he wouldn't go on forever, he would've carried on I think for a bit."
