A 16-year-old boy has died after collapsing in a river in Scotland.

Police Scotland named Kenzie Carmichael as the teenager whose body was removed from the water in the River Nith on Wednesday.

The force said they received a report at 7.35pm that he had collapsed near The Boathouse on Nith Avenue.

Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: "Kenzie's family and friends are devastated and it's vital we get them answers for how he died."

He added the officers do not believe the circumstances of this incident are suspicious or "that Kenzie, or anyone else present, had been playing within the river".

The detective said officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area to contact officers, saying it "could be crucial in helping us establish the full circumstances of Kenzie's death".
