A fly-tipping investigation by Charnwood Borough Council has resulted in a £1,000 fixed penalty notice after officers identified an offender using evidence found in dumped household waste near Cemetery Road in Thurmaston.
Charnwood Borough Council launched an investigation after receiving reports last month that a large quantity of waste had been illegally dumped near Cemetery Road Thurmaston .
Investigating officers found a tonne bag, with a fence panel, vinyl flooring and several black bags containing household waste. While examining the rubbish, officers discovered evidence that enabled them to identify a suspected offender.
The individual was invited to attend an interview at the council offices and was later interviewed under caution. Witness statements were also obtained as part of the investigation.
Following the recorded interview, the council issued the offender with a fixed penalty notice of £1,000.
The illegally dumped waste was removed by SERCO, restoring the area for public use.
Charnwood Borough Council says it continues to take a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping and is encouraging anyone who witnesses illegal waste dumping to report it them, helping officers identify those responsible and protect local communities.
