Can you help shape local dementia services?

People living with dementia — and those caring for someone with the condition — are being invited to share their experiences to help shape future support services in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire County Council is holding an engagement event at County Hall on Wednesday 18th February from 11am to 3pm, ahead of a new dementia support service due to launch in October 2026.

The council says hearing directly from residents will help ensure the service meets real needs.

The current dementia support service is delivered by Age UK, who will also be present to answer questions.

Places must be booked in advance by Friday 13 February.

Councillor Carl Abbott, cabinet member for adults, said: “We know that people living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia are one of the best ways for us to learn about what we need to offer.

“I’m hopeful as many people can come to the event to share their stories, experiences so that we can provide a service that gives people the support they need at what can be a very difficult time.”

People at the workshop will be asked to help with what a good dementia support service should look like, what the service should offer to help to support people living with dementia and carers, and what support should look like for people contacting if they are concerned about their memory.  

Age UK will also be at the event to share information about the current service and will be on hand to answer any questions about the pre and post diagnosis support they offer.
