More than 700 people have enquired or applied for positions

The first of a new batch of care recruits are getting ready to be deployed to help Leicestershire residents stay safe and well at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Leicestershiire County Council's Inspired to Care team launched a campaign to help care providers recruit staff so they are free to carry on providing services to the vulnerable and those in isolation, in particular supporting people discharged from hospital back into the community, helping to free up beds for the NHS.

So far more than 700 people have enquired or applied for positions, almost 70 people have been interviewed, 46 people have been offered jobs and 24 of those are currently going through training – with some ready to start work this week.

Councillor Richard Blunt, cabinet member for adult social care said: "There has been a huge response to the recruitment drive so far which is fantastic and we are now in a position where we’ll have people able to start vital work.

“This is a challenging situation and we are doing everything we can to keep critical services going, particularly those supporting vulnerable people.

“Social care support has never been so important and the roles on offer will give Leicestershire residents the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities, support the most vulnerable to stay safe and well, and earn money whilst carrying out a rewarding role."
