Charnwood will remember its fallen heroes in a 'poignant' Remembrance Sunday event

The Remembrance Sunday Parade will start from the town centre at 10.20am

The service will be held at the Carillon Tower, the town’s War Memorial.

The Remembrance Sunday Parade will start from the town centre at 10.20am and make its way to the Carillon for the service which starts at 10.50am.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Jennifer Tillotson said: “Remembrance is an incredibly important time of the year and as Mayor, it is an honour to be involved.

“It is vital that we as a nation recognise the brave people in the UK and Commonwealth who have fought and died for our country in conflicts past and present, and all over the world.

“This year will be especially poignant as it is the first Remembrance since the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who made her first public speech as a Princess during World War II, on 13 October 1940, with a radio address to the children of the Commonwealth, and who had a deep affection for the Armed Forces.

“The Remembrance service and parade in Loughborough is a great reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by military and civilian servicemen and women in wartime, and they must not be forgotten.

“I hope to see many Charnwood residents on Remembrance Sunday, where we can share the two minutes silence and help to maintain the memory of our fallen heroes.

“I also hope that residents will show their ongoing support for the families of our military and civilian service people who have lost their lives. Your support for those families via financial support for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal remains very important and much needed. Please give generously.”

The service will be led by The Reverend Elizabeth York, Acting Chaplain to the Royal British Legion, Loughborough Branch and Chaplain to the Loughborough Schools Foundation, and The Right Reverend Saju Muthalaly, Bishop of Loughborough.
