A Charnwood Borough Council spokesperson said: “It is disappointing to hear confirmation that Cineworld in Loughborough is due to close.
“Unlike in some other areas, the Council does not own the building occupied by Cineworld. The decision to close the business is therefore a purely commercial one, taken solely by the company.
“The Council is committed and will continue to support local businesses and high streets across the borough.
“It is actively working with the private sector to try to attract new potential occupiers to the cinema building and other key sites.”
