
Special commemoration events have taken place in Hinckley and Nuneaton to mark 80 years since VJ day.
A VJ Day service was conducted in St Mary's Church in Hinckley followed by wreath laying at the war memorial and an act of remembrance.
The Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and representatives from Hinckley Branch The Royal British Legion and The Royal Naval Association Hinckley Branch raised a special VJ Day flag in Argents Mead to commemorate the 80th anniversary.

In Nuneaton, a similar event took place outside the town hall to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan), commemorating the end of the Second World War.
A VJ 80 flag raising ceremony and wreath laying service took place at the Riversley Park War Memorial.
Council Leader Chris Watkins, said:
“We would like to encourage our residents to take part in these events.
“They commemorate the sacrifice given by our residents and people worldwide so we can have the freedoms we enjoy today.’’
Nuneaton Town Hall’s frontage has been decorated accordingly, with Union flag bunting, and red, white and blue flowers.
