Leicestershire County Council is one of three local authorities in the East Midlands trialling the government scheme.
People in regular contact with a young person at school or college can now pick up coronavirus home test kits from the community testing centre at the Blaby and District Social Centre.
There's scope for kits to be made available at the six other rapid testing sites in Leicestershire.
An initial batch of around 2,500 boxes – totalling around 18,000 test kits – is available to parents, carers, grandparents or those who are regularly in contact with a child.
You'll need to make an appointment to collect the 2 packs of lateral flow test kits, which contain 7 tests each, for use at home. It's also recommended you get tested while you're there so you can see how they work.
The kits are already available from coronavirus test centres and some employers and can be ordered online from the Government website.
Council leader, Nick Rushton, said: “I’m pleased that the Government has chosen Leicestershire to pilot this new initiative.
"Our community testing centres are working well, and enabling our key workers to remain on the front line and curbing the spread of the virus.
