Firearms officers sent to incident in Loughborough

Six people have been arrested in Freehold Street in Loughborough in connection with a firearms incident.

Officers said they were called shortly after 8.20am on Tuesday 26 March to reports that during an altercation a man was assaulted with a bunch of keys.

Leicestershire Police said the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. 

There was also a report that one person may have been in possession of a firearm.

A police statement said: "In the interest of police and public safety, armed officers were deployed. As part of the investigation, a vehicle was subsequently stopped in Freehold Street, Loughborough and the four occupants were arrested."

Police said a 19-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm and causing actual bodily harm.

A 40-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were also arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm.
All four remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm.

All six people remain in custody being questioned by officers. Police are asking for any witnesses to call 101, quoting incident 113 of 26 March.
