LOROS will make improvements to main hospice building with Government cash

This funding is for capital spend only. It cannot be used for day to day care or for staffing costs.

LOROS Hospice will receive a share of the Government’s recently announced £75 million capital fund for hospices in England.

The £908,253 allocated to LOROS will be invested in making improvements to the main hospice building, including upgrading its heating and ventilation systems to improve patients’ experience.

This funding is for capital spend only. It cannot be used for day to day care or for staffing costs.

Camilla Barrow, interim Chief Executive said: “This funding will enable us to carry out much needed work that we would not have been able to afford otherwise, due to the financial deficit we are currently facing.

“Yet whilst we are incredibly grateful for this investment, it’s important to recognise that it does not address the wider financial crisis confronting our hospice. We have already been forced into reducing some of our care services and this funding will not help us rebuild them.

“We remain committed to doing everything we can to protect the care our patients and families rely on.”

Earlier in the month LOROS annouced that it was experiencing severe financial challenges due to a sharp rise in running costs, a significant drop in gifts from wills and ever-increasing demand for services. 

As a result, they are facing a £2 million shortfall this year, which has forced them to reduce some services for patients and families.
