Man jailed after admitting domestic abuse

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.

A 28-year-old man has been jailed after admitting leaving a woman bleeding and unconscious following an incident of domestic abuse last summer.

Jake Scott, of Dalkeith Walk, Thringstone, appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday 22 January where he pleaded guilty to one count of actual bodily harm.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and issued with a seven year restraining order.

In the early hours of 21 August 2019 officers were called to a report of a woman attacked inside an address in Thringstone, Leicester.

The victim, 31, was asleep when Scott entered the property and grabbed her hair, pulling her off the sofa. He proceeded to kick and stamp on her causing her to lose consciousness before he fled from the address.

Police and the ambulance service were called to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. She was discharged the same day.

Officers, carrying out enquiries immediately following the report, arrested Scott an hour later at his home address.

Detective Constable Katie Smith is from the force’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit (DAIU). She said: “While the victim was asleep Scott carried out a horrific attack leaving the victim bloodied and bruised.

“I cannot even begin to imagine what she went through that night.

“Despite suffering the after effects of the assault, she fully engaged with our investigation and her courage is commendable.

“I am pleased Scott has pleaded guilty and I hope his admission is of some comfort to the victim.

“Domestic abuse is not acceptable and shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone. No one deserves to be treated in this way and victims should be encouraged to come forward and report what is happening, safe in the knowledge that they will be listened to and their report will be thoroughly investigated.

“There is a lot of support available to victims of domestic abuse if they can find the courage to reach out for help.”
