Police say a member of his family has now come forward.
A man whose body was found in the River Soar at the weekend has been identified.
Police were called at around 11.30am on Sunday 8th October to a report of a body seen in the water near to The Otter public house on London Road, Kegworth.
The body was recovered from the water and despite extensive efforts by police, they were not able to find out the name of the deceased.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers have prepared a file for the coroner.
Officers carrying out enquiries on behalf of the Coroner made an appeal earlier this week for help to identify the man and trace his next kin.
Following information received by the police yesterday, a relative has been traced and he formally identified the man on Thursday 12th October.
Officers would like to thank the media and public for helping to share the appeal.
