A one-way system is now in operation in Market Bosworth as works progress to improve parking for visitors.
The scheme also includes new pedestrian crossings, junction improvements, widened footways and cycle parking.
The Market Bosworth Parish Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council works were scheduled to take ten weeks, with work in the historic town carried out on their behalf by Leicestershire County Council.
The councils say businesses and residents will benefit from lower speed limits, improved road safety and better traffic flow.
Upgrades will include:
-
Improved priority system at the junction of Rectory Lane and Sutton Lane
-
Two-hour restricted parking bays in Market Place
-
New one-way clockwise gyratory system on Market Place and Main Street
-
New 20mph speed limit within the town centre and approach roads
-
Road resurfacing
-
Phase one of the works, which included replacing road signage and updating road markings started in May. The new clockwise one-way system was installed on 1st June. The whole project is scheduled to be completed in late July 2025. The council has said the timetable for the works is subject to change.
