90 percent of children starting school in Leicestershire in September will be in their first choice primary school.
Nine out of ten young people across Leicestershire have secured a place at their first choice of primary school.
Leicestershire County Council said 90.3 percent have been offered their preferred option.
5.2 percent got their second choice school and 1.6 percent were given their third choice school.
The council said more than 7500 applications were received for Leicestershire primary school places which is an increase of 3.9 percent on last year.
Councillor Ivan Ould, cabinet member for children and families, said: “We’re very pleased that nine out of 10 children have secured their first choice of school and our figures are broadly in line with last year. These remain encouraging figures, particularly bearing in mind we have more children in the system and parents and children are able to exercise their right to apply for a preferred school place.
“We also recognise that not every student has secured one of their preferred choices. We would encourage parents needing advice to get in touch as soon as possible, to discuss what options may be available to them, including an appeal.”
The council said any parents who applied in writing will receive a letter informing them of their child's school place. Those who applied online will receive an email about the decision.
