Recycling across Hinckley Borough is set to get even easier

From 4 March, Hinckley and Bosworth residents can recycle a host of common items including carrier bags, cling film, plastic film, bubble wrap, books, crisp tubes and egg boxes alongside other plastics, paper, cardboard glass and cans in their blue lidded recycling bin.

The changes are possible now that recycling material is being sent to a plant in Leicester that is capable of handling the materials.

To reduce the risk of contamination, residents are reminded that all materials should still be clean and free from food residue. Additionally, black plastic – including black plastic bags and film -  is unsuitable for recycling due to the carbon black pigments it contains which means it cannot be sorted by the optical sorting systems used in plastics recycling.

Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services at the Borough Council, Councillor Mark Nickerson, said: “This welcome change has been brought about by the hard work of all districts, led by our own senior officers, and will further enhance our efforts to increase our already excellent recycling rates.”
