Spitfire flypast to add historic moment to Hinckley BID’s 15th Annual Motor Show

Visitors to Hinckley are set for an extra-special moment at this year’s Hinckley BID 15th Annual Motor Show, with the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight confirming that a Spitfire is currently scheduled to fly over Hinckley town centre at approximately 2.05pm on Sunday 20 September.

The latest information received from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is that the aircraft will be either MK V Spitfire AB910 or MK XVI Spitfire TE311.

The flypast is expected to form part of the celebrations marking the 15th annual event, which has grown into one of Hinckley’s biggest community celebrations.

However, the Motor Show is about much more than cars.

Alongside hundreds of classic and special-interest vehicles, visitors can enjoy live music across the town centre, emergency service displays and activities, family entertainment, shopping, food and drink, with many of Hinckley’s independent businesses opening their doors and welcoming visitors throughout the day.

There will be opportunities to meet members of the Police, Fire and Search and Rescue services, see displays and vehicles, enjoy live performances and explore the wide range of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants that make up Hinckley town centre.

The event provides an opportunity for the whole community to come together and enjoy the town, while showcasing the businesses that operate in the town centre.

Helen Crouch, Hinckley BID Manager, said:

“Our Motor Show has always been about much more than the incredible vehicles on display. It is a celebration of Hinckley, bringing together residents, visitors, businesses, community organisations and emergency services for a fantastic day in the town centre.

“The news that a Spitfire is currently scheduled to fly over Hinckley makes our 15th anniversary even more special. It will be an incredible sight and a memorable moment for everyone who is able to see it.

“We would encourage visitors not just to come for the cars, but to make a day of it – enjoy the live music, visit the emergency service displays, explore our shops and support the cafés, pubs and restaurants that will be open and ready to welcome you.”

The latest flypast information remains subject to change, with the aircraft and timing potentially affected by weather, aircraft availability and operational conditions.

Important drone warning

No drones are permitted at any time during the event.

This is particularly important with an aircraft scheduled to operate over the town centre. An unauthorised drone could pose a serious safety risk to the aircraft, its crew and people on the ground.

Visitors are asked not to bring, launch or operate a drone anywhere around the event.

The Motor Show takes place on Sunday 20 September, with the main event running from 10am across Hinckley town centre.

The flypast is currently expected around 2pm but this is subject to change.

The event is free to attend.
