Around 20 students at Loughborough University are self-isolating after two individuals tested positive for coronavirus.

The University has said the two students live in seperate households on campus.

It comes as the new academic year gets underway today.

A statement from Loughborough University said: "Two households on our Loughborough campus are self-isolating (approximately 20 students) after two individuals tested positive for Covid-19.

We are supporting the students affected by delivering food, facilitating safe outdoor exercise and our pastoral teams have been in direct contact.

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison, has also visited both groups of students to speak to them and check on their welfare.

We are deploying rapid testing activity on campus wherever any symptoms are reported to us and have been able to confirm negative tests in all but these two cases. As of 4pm today (3rd October), all symptomatic students reporting through the Connect and Protect service on campus had been tested.

It is very important that students continue to follow the Seven Golden Rules. Students should contact our Connect and Protect service to report any symptoms or cases."
