As people prepare to celebrate Bonfire Night, residents are being reminded to enjoy fireworks safely and consider the impact they can have on others, including pets and neighbours.
With Bonfire Night celebrations taking place today , people across Leicestershire and Warwickshire are being reminded to take care when using fireworks and attending bonfires.
Whether you're heading to an organised display or planning celebrations at home, it's important to follow the Firework Code to help keep everyone safe.
Fireworks should only be bought from licensed retailers and should always be used in accordance with the instructions on the packaging.
Never return to a firework once it has been lit, and keep a safe distance. Children should always be supervised, while sparklers should be handled with care and never given to very young children.
Bonfires should be kept away from buildings, fences, trees and other flammable materials. Never use petrol or other flammable liquids to get a fire started.
Residents are also being asked to think about neighbours, older people and animals who may be affected by loud fireworks.
By law, fireworks must not normally be set off between 11pm and 7am. The permitted hours are extended to midnight on Bonfire Night.
People are encouraged to attend organised displays wherever possible and make sure celebrations are enjoyable and safe for everyone.
The key message is to enjoy Bonfire Night, but to do so responsibly.
