The Environment Agency says it is investigating the pollution incident at Bradgate Park.
Bradgate Park Trust issued a statement on Sunday 5th July stating that people should not enter the River Lin in the park due to pollution in the water.
Severn Trent Water then confirmed to Fosse 107 that engineers had worked through the night to fix the burst wastewater pipe.
As a result, experts from the Environment Agency were called in to assess the environmental impact of the incident.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said:
“We attended this site shortly after we were alerted to the incident and a report of a burst wastewater pipe.
Our officers took field readings to assess the environmental impact at the site. While a small number of dead fish were observed, pollution is no longer entering the water course, and the remaining pollutants have been successfully contained.
We are still investigating this incident and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if appropriate.”
Bradgate Park Trust says further information will be released in due course.
