Leicestershire County Council urged people to be careful when travelling and to follow local advice.

Hinckley Police have issued their top five tips if you need to drive during the floods:

🏎️ 1. Reduce speed: Slow down to maintain better control of your vehicle and increase your reaction time in case of unexpected hazards on wet roads.

🌧️ 2. Increase following distance: Allow extra space between your car and the vehicle in front to provide more time for braking and avoid hydroplaning.

💡3. Turn on headlights: Visibility is crucial in heavy rain, so use your headlights to make your vehicle more visible to others and to see the road ahead more clearly.

🎚️ 4. Avoid cruise control: Disable cruise control in wet conditions to ensure you have full control over acceleration and can react quickly to changing road conditions.

🛞 5. Check tires and brakes: Ensure your tires have sufficient tread depth, and your brakes are in good condition. Worn-out tires can lead to hydroplaning, while well-maintained brakes are essential for effective stopping in slippery conditions.
