Plans were put on hold due to Covid-19.
A £5m scheme to improve two key junctions on Rugby Road, alongside a range of improvements to existing cycling and pedestrian routes in Hinckley, will begin in the spring 2021.
Work was due to start this summer, but Leicestershire County Council say they had to reschedule their plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Once work commences next year, there will be improvements made to the Rugby Road/Hawley Road junction, alongside pedestrian and cycling improvements at Granville Road, Spa Lane, London Road and Coventry Road.
The ‘Rugby Road and Town Centre Improvement scheme’ was consulted on last year and will also see improvements to the Brookside junction, alongside introducing a new parking zone for residents and reviewing town centre parking facilities.
Councillor Trevor Pendleton, cabinet member for highways and transport said: “Starting the work in spring 2021 will ensure the work will be completed before the busy Christmas period where highway works are typically halted.
“This scheme will improve sustainable transport options in and out of the town with quicker and more reliable journeys and improve air quality by encouraging more people to walk and cycle."
A formal public consultation for the residents parking element of the scheme will be carried out at the end of September.
A spokesperson from Leicestershire County Council said details of the traffic management required for the scheme, and programme of work will be issued once finalised.
