It is suspected to have taken place on Saturday 11 September.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council are asking for witnesses to come forward after several thousands of pounds criminal damage occurred at the ground.
Several items of play equipment at Stockingford Recreation Ground was badly vandalised, with equipment either sawn off completely or damaged to the point of no repair.
The vandalism is suspected to have taken place on Saturday 11 September. The Council’s Playground Team have made the area safe, removed damaged equipment and are liaising with the Community Safety Team on the matter.
The cost of the damage is currently estimated at around £6k. The Council is currently investigating whether they have funds available to be able to replace the damaged equipment.
Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment said:
“This is a despicable act of vandalism and we are appealing to anyone who has information to come forward and report it. The costs run into many thousands of pounds that could be put to better use, especially in the wake of a global pandemic which has also hit Council finances hard.
“It is a very real possibility that the mindless actions of these criminals could mean that local residents in Stockingford could lose out on this valuable play equipment for good.
“Please, if you have any information, no matter how small, report it to Crimestoppers so we can help catch the culprits.”
