Four people have been arrested and police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
When officers arrived the victim was found in the street. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Three men aged 42, 21 and 18 and an 18-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident and they all remain in custody at this time.
Detective Sergeant Jenny Tattersall, from the Complex Investigation Team said: “While four people have been arrested, we are still trying to establish how the victim came about his injuries.
“I would therefore like to speak to anyone who saw or heard what happened last night and would urge them to contact police.
“Any information you have could help our investigation. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who has CCTV or a doorbell camera at their address, as this could assist us further. Likewise, I would like to speak to anyone driving in the area at the time who has a dashcam in their vehicle.”
