22 arrested in Leicestershire during police operation

Crackdown on violent offenders and burglars sees 22 people arrested across Leicestershire in two days

Twenty two people have been arrested after a two day police crackdown on violent offenders and burglars.

Officers carried out searches in a number of locations, targeting those who have either failed to appear in court, were suspected of crime in live unsolved investigations or were the subject of recalls to prison or wanted on warrant.

47 addresses were visited and 22 people were arrested during the two day operation. A stolen motorbike, credit cards relating to a theft from a vehicle and drugs were also recovered.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul McKinder who led the operational activity, said: “The aim was to arrest people who cause harm in our communities, making sure that those living within the area feel safe. These individuals have evaded police and thought we wouldn’t catch up with them. Of the 22 arrested we have charged eight people for various offences including theft, damage, domestic violence and assault."

Of those arrested, 11 have now been released on bail pending further enquiries. Three have been released with no further action.

Eight people have been charged. Among those, a 16-year-old boy who is accused of with witness intimidation relating to an incident in High Street, Measham, on Monday 29 May. A 17-year-old boy who was wanted on warrant in connection with an assault in Whitwick on Friday 24th February. 

27-year-old Kurtis O'Bierne of no fixed address was charged with assault and breach of bail conditions, he appeared before Leicester Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 15 June). The charge relates to two incidents where bail conditions were breached, an assault in Cambridge Street, Shepshed, on Saturday 8 April and two public order offences in May in the city centre.
