Leicestershire Police were called just after 5 this morning to Mountsorrel Quarry on Wood Lane to reports of a man injured, police say he died at the scene.
The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and are assisting with the incident.
Tarmac who own and operate the quarry have issued the following statement.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm a contractor, working at Mountsorrel quarry, lost his life earlier today (21 June). Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the man’s family, friends and colleagues. We are all shocked and saddened by this news and will continue to do all we can to help the authorities with their investigations, and to provide care and support for the team on site. As this investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this stage.”
