Shortly before 10.45am, a report was received that a black Ford Mondeo had left the northbound carriageway and collided with a tree between junction 21a and junction 22.
An appeal is being made for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward following a serious collision on the M1 this morning (Sunday 8 May).
Shortly before 10.45am, a report was received that a black Ford Mondeo had left the northbound carriageway and collided with a tree between junction 21a and junction 22.
The occupants – a driver and a passenger – were taken to hospital for treatment.
The passenger – a woman – is in a life-threatening condition. The driver’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The northbound carriageway remains closed between the junctions where the collision occurred.
Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, SCIU, said: “Our investigation into this incident is continuing and I would like to thank motorists for their patience while we carry out further enquiries.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the motorway this morning and saw the collision occur. I am also particularly keen to speak to anyone with a dashcam in their vehicle who has not yet come forward or who saw the black Ford Mondeo prior to the collision occurring. Any information you have could help.”
