Two people found a suspicious item in Hartshill Hayes yesterday evening.
Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team officers were called to the country park yesterday (1st August) after reports of a bomb-like device being found.
After examining the object Police believed it may be a small mortar or hand grenade. They closed the park area off, and the EOD (bomb disposal) were dispatched to cast an expert opinion.
Luckily it turned out to be an old cast iron fence topper from local historical buildings.
But police said the people who reported it were right to do so. If you find a suspicious item then call the police immediately and do not touch or move it.
