The two-day Bosworth Medieval Festival will not go ahead this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It was due to take place on August 22 and 23 to mark the 535th anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth.

Leicestershire County Council say they have taken the difficult decision to cancel the event to ensure that the health and safety of visitors, staff and suppliers remains top priority.

Councillor Richard Blunt, cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “I know the decision to cancel the Bosworth Medieval Festival 2020 will be a great disappointment to the thousands of people who were looking forward to coming along to this year’s event.
“It was not an easy decision to make, as it is one of the county’s most popular events. However, the health and safety of our visitors, staff and suppliers is our top priority.
“Our heritage team is working extremely hard to continue to engage with visitors digitally and we’d encourage you to stay in touch on our social media channels while we navigate our way through this tough time. We’re looking forward to when we are able to reopen and welcome visitors back to enjoy Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre.”
