Small businesses in Loughborough financially hit by the coronavirus pandemic have just under a week to apply for a grant.

Charnwood Borough Council says they've received more than 200 applications for the discretionary grant fund for companies that have previously been unable to claim government financial support.

The deadline for applications is 8am on Monday 22nd June.

Councillor Tom Barkley, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Finance and Property Services, said: “We have already received 211 applications for funding but I would urge businesses that meet the criteria to apply.
“We’ve developed local criteria to support Charnwood businesses and maximise the economic benefit for the borough.”

The business discretionary grant scheme was launched on 3rd June for small businesses able to demonstrate significant financial difficulties because of Covid-19.

The Government has provided an initial set of criteria which says the fund is open to charities, businesses in shared business spaces and market traders.

The Council says they also have some discretion about which businesses it can fund and will look to distribute funding to businesses that support employment in Charnwood, deliver health, welfare or community support services or have relatively high on-going fixed property costs.

More information including eligibility criteria and an application form can be found at www.charnwood.gov.uk/dgf.
