This year’s Christmas lights switch-on will take place in the town centre on Friday, 28 November from 4 pm-8 pm.
A competition has been launched to find an inspirational Charnwood youngster to switch on Loughborough’s Christmas lights.
Children aged between 5 and 12, who have done something extraordinary – whether that’s doing something to help the local community, looking after a relative or achieving something amazing at school can be nominated. They must also be a Charnwood resident.
This year’s Christmas lights switch-on will take place in the town centre on Friday, 28 November from 4 pm-8 pm.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for housing, economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “It is great to run the Light up Loughborough competition once again and make memories for a Charnwood youngster that they’ll never forget.
“We have received some amazing entries about truly inspiration children from across the borough in recent years and it is always a magical moment to surprise our winner with the good news.
“I would like to encourage parents and guardians to nominate their little stars and I look forward to reading the entries.”
Last year, nine-year-old Felicity Chan was chosen to switch-on the Christmas lights after the judges heard about her selflessness in helping both her parents during illness.
As well as hitting the big button, the competition winner will also receive a family ticket to this year’s pantomime, Cinderella at Loughborough Town Hall and a £50 Love Loughborough voucher.
All entrants must be aged between 5 and 12 and live in Charnwood. They will need to be entered by a parent or guardian. The closing date for entries is Sunday, 26 October.
Entries will be considered by a judging panel made up of representatives from the Council.
