Deadline for Community Heroes Day nominations is extended

The deadline for Community Heroes Day nominations has been extended. Charnwood Borough Council is asking people to nominate a Community Hero who they feel makes a real difference to the lives of local people.

The deadline for nominations has been extended to Friday, August 11.

Everyone nominated will be presented with a certificate at a presentation day on Sunday, August 20 in Loughborough Market Place. 

Malcolm Heaven, 58 from Rearsby, won a Community Hero award in 2015 for his work with Business in the Community which offers a number of practical ways for businesses to work together and take action on key issues in the local area.

Malcolm has recently retired but still works closely with community groups in the borough. He said: “A common thing I've noticed about those that volunteer is how modest they are.

“Many don't mention the time they give and that’s why Community Heroes Day is so important. It recognises individuals and the effort they put in on behalf of others.”

“I will be nominating a community hero myself this year and I would encourage people to the same if they know someone who deserves to be recognised.” 

Chris Traill, Strategic Director for Neighbourhoods and Community Wellbeing said: “Celebrating the hard work of volunteers and community groups is important to us so I’d encourage people to nominate people who’ve made a difference.

“We want to appreciate those heroes who go above and beyond to help their community and as a result improve the lives of local people.”

Anyone who lives or works in Charnwood can nominate a Community Hero or be nominated themselves.
